Centre overview

Our Southampton adult experimental cancer medicine centre (ECMC) has a strong global reputation in lymphoid malignancies, urological tumours, immunotherapy and early cancer detection. The centre’s research is supported by an embedded translational laboratory with a robust quality management system.

There is also a paediatric centre in Southampton.

Image of Andrew Davies.

Andrew Davies - Centre lead

Andrew Davies is a Professor of Haematological Oncology at Southampton University, specialising in malignant lymphoma and high-dose chemotherapy. Andrew focuses on monoclonal antibody therapies, biomarker translation and novel treatments, leading multiple early-phase trials. He is the Wessex regional lead for teenage and young adult cancers.

Adam Coleman - Centre business co-lead

Adam Coleman is a Senior Research Fellow and Operational Lead for Southampton ECMC, with a focus on immunological assay development for early-phase trials. Adam has led the delivery of several translational and immunological endpoint studies for phase 1 and 2 trials and early cancer detection studies. He is experienced in representing translational science within multi-disciplinary teams.

Constance Rawlings - Centre business co-lead

Connie Rawlings is a Divisional Research Manager in Research and Development at University Hospital Southampton, overseeing the oncology research portfolio. She leads on study prioritisation, set up and delivery and works closely with key stakeholders across the trust and externally to ensure high-quality research.

Catherine Pointer - Patient and public involvement lead

Catherine Pointer completed her PhD in Cancer Immunology at the University of Southampton in 2019. After three years as an ECMC Southampton Research Fellow, she became the Quality Assurance manager for the team, ensuring our clinical trials are kept to Good Clinical Practice standards.
