The ECMC Haematology Network Group brings together a range of stakeholders with specialist interests in early phase haematology trial opportunities.

Mission Statement

The ECMC Haematology Network Group brings together a range of stakeholders with specialist interests in early phase haematology trial opportunities. The Haematology network group is co-ordinated from Cardiff ECMC and is led by Professor Oliver Ottmann, providing an active forum which connects across the whole ECMC network. Since its establishment in 2018, the ECMC Haematology Network Group has evolved into a cohesive group of members representing haematology departments from the majority of ECMC centres and is also accessible to non-ECMC sites.

The group engages in collaborative clinical and translational research activities and has an active pharma engagement strategy for developing national and international links. Research interests bridge paediatric and adult haematological studies and include: combination clinical trials, Immunotherapy (including advanced cellular therapies), PETIC Imaging for therapeutic efficacy/toxicity, reverse translation and biobank development, digital biomarkers and Data integration.

Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) is at the forefront of the Haematology Network which aims to raise awareness of clinical trials an improve the experience of cancer trial patients.

The Haematology Network Group aims to provide a UK wide forum to harness collaborative potential and develop early phase haematology opportunities. We will share best practice for designing and delivering innovative therapies to a wide range of patient participants.

Remit

Develop strategies for attracting more early phase haematology trials within the ECMC.
Increase collaborative opportunities across haematology centres in the UK, develop and execute innovative academic led studies.
Improve haematology access to compounds and trials via increasing and improving working links with industry, designating a regular space for discussion with industry partners.
Create scientifically rich clinical trials through translational research sub-group activities.
Establish platforms to share information about trials and trial-associated translational projects within the ECMC Haematology Group.
Develop and maintain relations with other relevant groups and networks (such as the ECMC Paediatric Network and pan-age studies), adopting best practice and proven models to develop the network, as well as generating innovative approaches to trial development.
Support regional approaches (such as the approach adopted by the ECMC Paediatric Network) to patient recruitment and trial delivery, with a commitment to offer a more even spread of trial access across the UK.
Increase career and trials training opportunities for haematology young investigators
Work with patient and public representatives to develop trials as key stakeholders
Increase national and international profile of the network’s capabilities in complex haematological trials.

Steering Committee Members

Scope of membership

The ECMC Haematology Network Group has over one hundred members and is comprised of health professionals, clinicians and scientists working in haematological research across the ECMC Network and beyond. The group welcomes researchers working on both Adult and Paediatric haematological cancers and we encourage membership from Junior Investigators and non-medical professionals working in a haematological area, including trial managers, nurses and biobank managers.

The network also includes members from CRUK and ECMC central programme office teams and also benefits from Public/Patient Involvement representation from adult and Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) members. Our principle is to be as inclusive possible, particularly on a regional basis.
